19th Century

11 September - 22 September 2004

Dramatic events and dramatic landscapes - this tour combines both as it explores some of the major and most scenic North American battles of the British army from 1759 to 1815. From the hotly fought contests of the War of 1812 in the Niagara to beautiful Quebec City, a world heritage site and scene of General James Wolfe's great victory at the Heights of Abraham (aided in no small measure by the magnificent British naval task force that accompanied him), there is so much to do and see in this ten-day itinerary, devised and led by North America's leading War of 1812 military historian, Donald E. Graves. Staying in very comfortable hotels, there are lots of interesting 'extras' to give you a flavour of eastern Canada and New York State - a visit to Niagara Falls and to the lovely town of Niagara-on-the-Lake with its excellent shopping and locally produced wines; the chance to experience the café life of Old Quebec; the opportunity to enjoy beautiful Lake Champlain on "Last of the Mohicans" country, and the very "British" city of Kingston, at the head of Lake Ontario and seat of the Royal Military College of Canada. Wonderful locations, good hospitality and great history all combine to make this an unmissable tour!
